Overcoming Anxiety with Hypnotherapy & CBT

Understanding Your Anxiety

Anxiety is today’s real pandemic. Expectations, pressure, the media and western living all have their part to play. Let’s move you through the issues that affect you, together. Whether you’re in a dark place, overthinking, hampered by social anxiety or need help in overcoming health anxiety, you now have hope.

How I can Help

We will look at your thoughts, emotions and behaviours and how they are interacting to put you where you are. We will begin to restructure your brain and its neural pathways to form new positive habits – cognitively and behaviourally. And harnessing the power of your imagination through hypnosis, we will begin to turn you around. We may use mindfulness, breathing and meditation techniques as well as Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT).

Frequently asked questions

Anxiety & Stress

I have experienced problems swallowing. Is this Anxiety related?

It might be down to anxiety. If you have any physiological symptoms, like problems swallowing, a lump in throat or digestive issues, do visit your GP first. Once they have cleared you then it is highly likely it is anxiety related. I have dealt with many issues that present these kinds of symptoms so relax and get in touch.

I need to be near a toilet all the time. Is there something wrong with me?

Anxiety can take many forms. I have helped many people who feel they often need to go to, or be near, the toilet. The stomach and digestive system is one of the first to react to stress and anxiety and has been called our ‘second brain’. When we register a fear or threat – imagined or real – our body releases chemicals like andrenaline and cortisol which regulate other functions. This may well affect your digestive system and cause you to feel discomfort – or wanting to go to the toilet. Whilst it feels very real, uncomfortable and upsetting, it is just the body doing its thing. Contact me and we can work with this using CBT and Hypnotherapy for toilet issues and digestion. Hypnotherapy is effective for IBS too, which is also known to be stress related.

How does hypnosis for anxiety work?

It can vary. But in some instances, anxiety can be imagined issues or worries about the future. Rather interestingly, this can be a form of negative self-hypnosis (NSH). So we relax you, induct you into a deep state of calm ‘hypnosis’ and begin to use your imagination to deepen that sense of calmness and relaxation by using imagery to move you into positive, more pleasant state of being. Of course everyone is different and we work together on setting individual goals and bespoke treatment which our work will be shaped around. Hypnosis may be just one of many approaches.

My son/daughter is an adult and struggling and I hate to see it. But I’m not sure if it’s my business to help.

I have spoken to parents who worry about their son or daughter…and some are in their twenties or thirties. That’s fine and not uncommon. Speak to me if you like, but if possible it’s better to consult them beforehand. Ultimately, of course, I will need to speak directly to them. So whilst I’m happy to speak with you first, bear in mind that when and if I work with them, everything between them and myself is then in confidence.

Is hypnosis and hypnotherapy effective for anxiety and stress?

Yes, when done with motivation and intent, hypnotherapy is highly effective for anxiety. And when combined with CBT it is even more effective and longer lasting. The hypnotherapy techniques are relaxing, centering and bring you into the safety and beauty of the Now. It can be immensly gratifying and releasing.

All the processes I do with you are recorded and are yours to use for life.

What are the best ways to deal with anxiety?

Looking for an ‘anxiety cure’, ‘getting over anxiety’ or thinking you can ‘stop anxiety’ are not always the most helpful mental approaches to the problem and can often make symptoms of anxiety more acute. Managing stress and anxiety, or finding ways to reduce anxiety is more correct. I maintain that what I use, evidence-based Hypno-CBT, or hypnotherapy with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, provides the best coping mechanisms for anxiety as it provides a number of methods within it. Put together they provide incredible effective anxiety relief using a number of methods, tools and hypnosis processes that are both inspiring and life changing.
