Phobias
Relaxing your fears away

What are you afraid of?
A fear of heights? A fear of flying? Maybe it’s a fear of public speaking. Or a fear of insects. If you have cultivated a phobia, it can ruin your enjoyment of life. I’m proud to say I’ve successfully helped my clients overcome all these by refocusing and repurposing the imagination – using hypnotherapy for phobias to relax their minds and for them to face their fear in gentle steps.

How I can help
Phobias are irrational fears. Often they are caused by a single bad experience. Or something we saw or read. But research has shown that fear and relaxation can’t exist in the body at the same time. So by using hypnotherapy for phobias and exposure therapy we can mentally and physically relax you into the problem situation – so you can even start to enjoy it. And live a richer free life.

Frequently asked questions
Phobias
How do you cure a phobia with Hypnotherapy?
I actually work with a combination of Hypnotherapy and CBT, or Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy. Fears and phobias are usually the result of a bad experience or a negative learning around the partcular stimulus remembered unconsciously. That experience can be generalised to cause an overreaction or an irrational need for safety. This usually results in avoidance, not the best strategy for overcoming a fear. I usually do a hierarchy of fear test to determine how much the fear is causing in different situations, such as proximity to the object feared. Then we work slowly up that hiercarchy in vitro (using the imagination or in hypnosis) whilst promoting calm and relaxation throughout the process. We may look at various other gentle behavioural methods to slowly get you to relax and face the particular situation in steps. There are four or so processes I use to overcome a fear or phobia.
What phobias are most common successes for you?
I have worked very successfully with open space fears, fear of heights and bridges. I have also worked successfully with people who have a fear of bees, wasps and other flying insects. Fear of Flying is a very common issue and I’m proud to say I have helped many clients get on planes and enjoy their holidays. Fear of crowds and enclosed spaces are also common issues.
